ABOUT GRANDMASTER

FRANKLIN

For over 50 years, I have practiced and taught Taoism, Tai Chi, Qi Gong, and traditional martial arts. Since 1977, I have directed the School of Tao Chi, where I continue to share these traditions with students of all ages and experience levels. I also offer mentoring, Taoist philosophy instruction, grief counseling, and Singing Bowl Meditation.

My teaching experience includes the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the University of Oregon, Central Oregon Community College, Glendale Community College in Arizona, Leeward Community College in Hawaii, and the University of Alaska, where I served as an adjunct faculty lecturer in Eastern Philosophy and Taoism. I also taught Medical Tai Chi and Qi Gong at the Anchorage Senior Center for nine years.

OFFERING TAI CHI & MEDITATION

TAI CHI CLASSES

Tai Chi and Qi Gong are traditional Chinese practices that combine gentle movement, breathing, balance, and focused attention. Classes are designed to help students develop greater body awareness, flexibility, coordination, relaxation, and a sense of well-being. Beginners are welcome, and instruction can be adapted to each student’s experience and ability.

SINGING BOWL MEDITATION

Singing Bowl Meditation uses the gentle tones and vibrations of traditional bowls to create a peaceful setting for quiet reflection and relaxation. During a session, participants are invited to slow down, breathe, and experience the bowls' sounds in a calm, comfortable environment. Some of the bowls in my collection are more than 200 years old.

MY TRAINING & EXPERIENCE

I am certified in Kinesiology, Exercise Analysis, and Biomechanics through the University of Alaska Anchorage. I am also certified by the Oregon Council on Aging to teach Tai Chi for seniors.

As a teacher and published author of philosophy, poetry, and children’s stories, I explore the principles of Taoism and the qualities of compassion, balance, and understanding that can enrich our daily lives.

IN MY CLASSES

In my classes, students learn in a welcoming and supportive environment where questions, personal guidance, and individual attention are encouraged. I teach Tai Chi, Qi Gong, meditation, and Taoist philosophy in a way that respects each student’s experience and abilities. My goal is to help students develop greater balance, awareness, relaxation, and a deeper understanding of these traditional practices.

A TAOIST PRIEST

I have studied Taoism for over 50 years and founded the School of Tao Chi in 1978. Through the years, I have taught Tai Chi, Qi Gong, Taoist philosophy, meditation, and traditional martial arts. My teaching draws upon the principles of Taoism and their practical application to balance, awareness, compassion, and everyday life.

I have also taught Eastern Philosophy of Taoism at the University of Alaska and Medical Qi Gong and Taoism for many years. As a published author, I have written on philosophy, spiritual poetry, Tai Chi, and related teachings.
